I have learnt a lot for example and I think it’s wise I share some lessons I have deduced from this whole debacle:
You Should Pay Up All the Time:
When you go to your friend in your time of need and ask for a loan, make sure you return the favour and pay up as promised. In that desperate time when you were almost kicked out of your apartment due to rent arrears extending to 3 months, that time when your business was just about to go under and then that friend came through for you, he was your savior. Now you have made money, you have recovered, you are posting photos of your trips on instagram and yet you owe someone money. Just know your time is coming.
Social Media is the Modern Day Plague:
The year was 1346 and one of the biggest epidemics ever experienced in the world hit Europe. It continued until 1356 and by the time it was done, 200 million people had been wiped off the face of this earth. That was approximately 30-60% of the whole world population.
A step into the future and we have social media which is destroying lives, families, careers and even causing death. Just google and you will find numerous cases of people who have been brought to their knees due to something that was posted on social media. Evans Gikunda is a casualty of this because as we speak he’s currently out of a job and the chances of getting another one are very limited.
Not everyone is Your Boy:
We sit at the bar on Saturday nights enjoying a game of football and endless banter about all the women we’re playing and we think we’re friends. That this people we are pouring all our secrets to will be loyal and will strive to keep things strictly confidential. If Gikunda’s case is anything to go by, then it’s obvious nobody can be trusted, even your very “own” boys.
Respect Authority:
Even the bible says that we should all respect authority and hold with high regard. I think that’s where Evans missed the point because this whole thing wouldn’t have blown out of proportion if he hadn’t over shared unnecessary information about his bosses and colleagues. As a matter of fact, that’s where the gist of the story came from. So before you sit there, having your second grade whiskey and start blabbing all sorts of things about your bosses, think twice.
People Don’t Care About You:
Lastly what I have learnt about this Evans thing is that people don’t care anymore. Actually they laugh more; they exploit more when you are tumbling down to the ground. Look at media for example, this whole exposé was an avenue to get as many clicks as possible and for the very many forums on facebook and what not, this provided endless banter which continued for a whole two days. The hell it’s continuing even now.
The days when people harbored the feelings of sympathy and empathy are long gone and we are just stuck here, fending for ourselves. I guess that’s why Coca Cola decided to come with the Taste the Feeling campaign which is keen on igniting the feelings of sharing, joy and togetherness while sharing a bottle of the world acclaimed bottle of soda. Because trust me, we need those kind of feelings ignited within us lest we become walking robots.
"In Kenya, most of the lesbians especially the ones in the sports world have been recruited to the same out of peer influence maybe in the teams or during their high school days where the practice is said to be more popular," asserts the report.
Other causes of female same-sex attraction listed by the site include "disappointments" by men and being raped.
An un-named source is quoted as saying: "Our relationships with men don’t last. Some of the women have become so disappointed and in the end they become lesbians because they are afraid of heart breaks.”
Machio recounts claims that the Kenyan women soccer team, known as the Harambee Starlets, lost a recent game against Ethiopia because some of the Kenyan players were said to have engaged in lesbian sex before the match.
In June 2011, ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany, it was reported that rumours of lesbianism had led to some players being thrown out of the Nigerian national women’s soccer team.
Coach Eucharia Uche told The New York Times at the time that the “dirty issue” of lesbianism in the team had been dealt with thanks to prayer and divine intervention.
In response, FIFA announced it would launch an investigation into the reports of homophobia by Nigerian football officials. Mambaonline, however, has been unable to find the results of the investigation or that an investigation was ever undertaken.
